Traffic Management Act (TMA) is a source of much confusion and debate, the principal challenge being that existing data, systems and processes will not meet the new requirements to co-ordinate maintenance of buried assets. Better collaboration is needed between all parties concerned, which should in turn improve street works planning and execution. Spatial data and Geographic Information Systems will play a core role in TMA compliance.
