bullet point Utilites
A vital facility for utilities

Whether they are involved in water, electricity, gas or oil, all Utilities manage networks of assets, service a broad customer base and are, generally, government regulated. It is the same for producers, suppliers and enablers.

As large, complex organisations, the Utilities industry faces a unique set of challenges in the way it manages assets, associated services and customer-related data. The importance of seamlessly delivering essential services puts considerable pressure of information management.

Historically, geographic information systems have supported specialised engineering, operations and asset management teams, typically with data created and maintained in a multitude of systems applications. The pressure to rationalise costs and streamline business practices has highlighted the benefits to be achieved from improved access to information, of which GI is a prime facilitator.

GDC helps Utilities to maximise the potential of the spatial information they collect, manage and distribute. Spatial information provides them with the key to linking business processes across the organisation, enhancing their decision making, improving performance and reducing costs.
